Release of Ukrainian ENCs
A large set of Ukrainian ENCs was released on 1 April. Covering the Black Sea, these comprise 103 cells organised in General
(usage band 2), Coastal (usage band 3), Approach (usage band 4), Harbour (usage band 5) and Berthing (usage band 6) scales.

New director-general for Norwegian Hydrographic Service
Gerry Larsson-Fedde, recently appointed to head the Norwegian Hydrographic Service (NHS), took up this post on Wednesday 20
February. He replaces Frode Klepsvik, who was directorgeneral of the NHS for a decade from 1997 until 2007.
Automating ENC inspections
A secure web-based service is under development to give people carrying out port state control inspections for the Norwegian
Maritime Directorate immediate information on a vessel and its use of official electronic navigational chart (ENC) or SENC

ENCs - A viable solution for e-navigation and ECDIS implementation
The Maritime Safety Committee decided at its 81st session to develop a strategic vision for e-navigation to integrate existing
and new navigation tools in an all-embracing system that will contribute to enhanced navigational safety while simultaneously
reducing the burden on the navigator. The electronic navigational charts (ENCs) form an important component of this system.
This has made the coverage, availability and distribution of ENCs a subject of much discussion.
